Open Data based flood warning?
How to send out messages warning people of potential floods in their region? That is the question the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales is working on since 2004. When they started providing warning messages to those possibly affected, these messages were sent out only by landline telephone connections. Nowadays, the target audience has moved to mobile phones, internet and other digital services. Call for the development of innovative apps in the environmental and social domains
After the success of earlier calls, MYGEOSS launched another call for the development of innovative applications using openly available or crowd-generated data. The focus of this call is on developing applications of European relevance that will provide users with quantitative or qualitative information on the changing environment. Other areas of application will be considered provided that they address broad environmental or social themes across geographic scales. What happened during #Hack4Swe?
During the weekend of 12-13 March 2016, the annual #Hack4Swe took place. This year, 23 government agencies and organizations participated as organizers in this hackathon that provided a common platform for Open Data for students, developers, data journalists, innovators and government agencies to use for developing new services and products. Open Data in Greece
The Athens Node of the Open Data Institute has kicked off its series of seminars on Open Data in the Greek public sector. Brussels-Capital Launches Open Data Portal
Following its Smart City Strategy, Brussels-Capital Region launched its own Open Data Portal. By bringing together the various public bodies of the Brussels-Capital Region and partners, such as the local transport company and environmental agency, the portal is a gateway to regional datasets. At the moment there are 93 datasets available, ranging from cadastral parcels to postal zones to traffic events.
