Do most people live in big cities?

Open Data helps to uncover prejudice and truth about city dwellers and villagers

The project Diving into Urban-Rural Prejudice compiled information on what people from villages, towns and cities think about different aspects of life in these different surroundings. Survey data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), and from the German General Social Survey (ALLBUS) was analysed and clustered in categories from city dwellers to villagers. Thereby the team was able to point out a few conspicuous differences between urban and rural areas.

On their website visitors can test their knowledge about characteristics of life in villages, towns and cities. In a quiz, users can find out if what they think is actually true or in fact just prejudices.
