Explore the dashboard that maps Ukraine´s refugee situation
In 2011, UNHCR – the United Nations Refugee Agency - set up the Operational Data Portal as information and data sharing platform to facilitate coordination of refugee emergencies.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the portal provides daily updates on the number of Ukrainians fleeing the country and support the provision of humanitarian aid.
At the moment of writing, more than 3 million refugees have already fled Ukraine and crossed borders into neighbouring countries of Poland, Romania, Republic of Moldova, Hungary, Russian Federation, Slovakia, and Belarus. Besides the influx of refugees´ per receiving country, the dashboard also provides interactive charts showing the number of refugees fleeing Ukraine by date and month.
The portal statistics are compiled from a variety of sources, but mainly based on data made public by authorities from official border crossing points. This proves how important it is for governments to make their data public and how powerful the re-use of this open information can be to cope with today´s societal challenges.
