Latvia combines political efforts to increase Open Data availability

7 Latvian ministries commit to publish more Open Data throughout 2018

The Latvian government is encouraging national administrations to make Open Data increasingly available. During a cabinet meeting, seven Latvian ministries committed to expand the release of Open Data. In effect, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Justice will change their internal regulations during the first half of 2018. By doing so, their ministries are able to make datasets available on the national Open Data portal. Similarly, other ministries agreed to prioritise Open Data availability.

Latvia's Open Data portal was launched in September last year by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. The current broad ministerial support for increasing Open Data availability helps to enrich the portal. It will also provide small and medium sized companies, as well as larger businesses, with the data needed to support their current operations or explore new innovative business models.
