Making public data easier to find: Discover Hungary’s national data portal

Explore how Hungary brings public-sector data and information about its reuse together in one place

Public organisations collect information about many aspects of everyday life, but finding the right source can take time. Hungary’s National Open Data Portal, operated by the National Data Asset Agency, provides a central starting point for discovering public data. It brings together descriptions of resources held by different organisations and information about how those resources can be reused.

Users can browse the dataset catalogue and narrow their search by publishing organisation, topic, time period, format or licence. Dataset records provide information about the publisher and links to available resources. For example, the catalogue includes the Budapest transport timetable database, described as a daily-updated resource in a standard format used for public transport schedules. The portal also provides access to statistical resources and guidance on data reuse.

Open data is easier to use when people can find its source and understand the conditions attached to it. Bringing dataset descriptions together helps researchers, businesses, public authorities and interested citizens identify information relevant to their questions. Details about coverage, formats and licences also help users judge whether a resource suits their intended use. National catalogues therefore provide an important starting point for turning public information into research, services and a clearer understanding of everyday life.

Curious about the public data available in Hungary? Browse the national portal’s catalogue or visit the European Data Portal to continue discovering datasets from across Europe.
