Open data portals across Europe: Luxembourg builds a trusted, centralised data ecosystem

Empowering citizens, developers, and institutions through accessible public data

Luxembourg’s national open data portal, data.public.lu, serves as a central hub for accessing and reusing public sector data. Launched in 2016, the platform is a key component of the country’s digital transformation strategy, offering over 2 300 datasets from more than 200 contributors, including government ministries, municipalities, research institutions, and private organisations.

The portal is designed to make data easily accessible and reusable, supporting a wide range of sectors such as mobility, environment, public finance, and culture. It provides structured metadata, APIs, and tools for developers, researchers, and citizens to explore and build upon.

Open data is a cornerstone of Luxembourg’s commitment to transparency, innovation, and citizen engagement. The portal remains under the stewardship of the Open Data Division of the Information and Press Service, ensuring continuity and alignment with Luxembourg’s transparency and innovation goals. By making public data openly available, the government empowers individuals and organisations to create new services, conduct research, and make informed decisions.

Whether you're a developer looking to build data-driven applications, a journalist seeking insights, or a citizen interested in how public services operate, data.public.lu invites you to explore, reuse, and contribute to a growing ecosystem of open knowledge. Join Luxembourg in shaping a more transparent and innovative digital future.
