PICS: The web application from the City Council of Barcelona

Helping citizens spot the city’s points of interest

PICS is a web application designed by the City Council of Barcelona that helps citizens keep track of natural and urban spaces, museums, schools, research centres, points of cultural heritage and various leisure facilities.

On a map overview, the city, its ten districts, and its neighbourhoods are displayed, overlayed with various points of interest.  For each of the points of interest, a detailed description is available and can be organised by category, e.g. natural areas or urban areas, and by neighbourhood. This application helps citizens of Barcelona, as well as tourists, navigate their way along some of the key attractions and landmarks of the city.

The project has been running for several years already and its source code is published as open source software. Read more about the project and get the source code on their website.
