2018 CEF Telecom Call - Public Open Data
The European Union, under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), launched a call for proposals making EU funding available through grants managed by INEA to improve the interoperability and interconnectivity of the European digital service ecosystem. The 2018 CEF Telecom Public Open Data call (CEF-TC-2018-5) makes €18.5 million of funding available for proposals in this area. The deadline for submission is 15 November. Proposals will be evaluated until February 2019 and grants agreements are expected to enter into force from April 2019 onwards. Read the work programme and the flyer on the CEF

Dublin Core Metadata Initiative
The Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) is an open organisation supporting innovation in metadata design and best practices. DCMI's activities include discussions and collaborative work with communities at global conferences, meetings and workshops, and educational efforts to promote widespread acceptance of metadata standards and best practices. In pursuit of that goal, DCMI hosts annual conferences. This year's focus is Open Metadata for Open Knowledge. Register for the conference in Porto (Portugal), 10-13th September 2018 and follow their series of webinars.

Implementing Open Banking
The banking industry is moving toward Open Banking, sharing customer data with third parties, including fintech companies. This can significantly enhance the banking experience in the future. Progress in health data interoperability
Opening and sharing health related data is vital to improve research, diagnosis and treatment of health-related issues. Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, IBM, and Oracle have joined to progress towards true health data interoperability. EU Datathon on 2 October in Brussels
The Publications Office of the European Union is organising the second edition of the EU Datathon competition that highlights the potential of linking EU and national data. The event started in May 2018, with the final phase taking place in Brussels on 2 October 2018. Spotted on the Italian Open Data Portal dati.gov.it: A delegation from the Turkish Government visited the national portal of Open Data run by the Agenzia per l'Italia Digitale AgID (AgID). The three-day meeting was dedicated to discussing the main initiatives undertaken in Italy on the subject of open government, Open Data and the accountability of the public administration. Google is focusing on accessibility of Open Data
Google launched a new type of search engine designed specifically around helping people find Open Data. Called " Dataset Search", the tool provides access to datasets across data repositories on the web. Like in the general search function, the algorithms that determine which information and sources are selected and prioritised stays unrevealed.
