EDP launches a competition in B2G data sharing
Sharing data between businesses and governments (B2G) is getting more and more vital. Public sector bodies need to modernise the way they function and exploit the potential of new data sources to become more data-driven and cost-efficient. Data held by companies, such as telecoms operators, online platforms, car manufacturers, retailers or social media, is highly relevant in this context. Its use can, for example, lead to a more targeted response to epidemics improving public health, better urban planning, improved road safety and traffic management, as well as better environmental protection

Spotted on the Austrian Open Data Portal data.gv.at: "Open Minds Award: Submit now in the category "Open Data". The Open Minds Award creates a stage for open source actors and projects. As part of an annual Fix-Event, consisting of the award ceremony and the open source ball, the best projects are awarded. In the category "Open Data" the best Open Data projects of Austria are searched for. Anyone promoting, using or producing Open Data is invited to submit in the category. Hackathon "Cultural adventure on the palm"
The hackathon "Cultural adventure on the palm" will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 29 to 30 September 2018. The event is organised by the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Culture and the Slovenian Tourist Board. Its aim is to create the conceptual design of an IT solution that will enable better promotion and experience of Slovene cultural heritage in tourism through the visualisation of Open Data. B2G data sharing experts needed
On 24 August, the Commission published a call for applications for the selection of members of an expert group on access to and re-use of private sector data for public interest purposes. The objectives of the expert group are to endorse a framework for Business-to-Government (B2G) data sharing, on the basis of the guidance document published by the Commission on 25 April 2018 and to provide the Commission with recommendations on future policy and funding initiatives in the area of private sector data sharing with public bodies for public interest purposes. Evaluation and assessment of the INSPIRE directive
Since the entry into force of the Infrastructure for Spatial Information, (INSPIRE) Directive in 2007, more and more spatial data is being published on the internet by public authorities or organizations working on their behalf. The European Data Portal provides access to Inspire datasets and engages to increase the use and the impact of geospatial data. The Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the EU, the INSPIRE Directive, plays an important role in facilitating such sharing. Three-year Anniversary of the European Data Portal
Celebrating three years of Open Data on the European data portal! Thank you to all our readers and subscribers for following us and for sharing your valuable experiences, insights and opinions about Open Data. Three years ago, the European Data Portal (EDP) was launched. Its Beta version started with a reference of 240,000 datasets and had metadata available in 3 languages. Today, the portal attracts over 30,000 visitors a month and contains over 856,000 datasets covering 35 countries, 13 categories to structure metadata that is available in 24 official EU languages, has 16 training modules

Open Data Portal of Estonia
Over the last two decades, Estonia has quickly become one of the world's most developed digital societies. On 1 November 2018, Estonia re-launched their Estonian Open Data Portal. The Open Data Portal allows everyone to access public sector data and publishes blogs to promote Open Data, such as through their "Open Data and Journalist" series. Currently, the website is not available in English; however, the team behind the Estonian Open Data Portal is creating an English version and planning to launch it online soon.
