The Irish Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe T.D, today (Tuesday 20th June) launched a public consultation on the draft Irish Open Data Strategy 2017-2022. Studies (such as the European Data Portal report ' Creating Value through Open Data') show that the publication of Open Data has the potential to drive more effective decision-making and efficient service delivery, spur economic growth, and empower citizens to take an active role in improving their own communities. Digital Single Market conference on the free movement of data
The priorities of the Estonian Presidency are focused on creating a Digital Single Market within the European Union. The Digital Single Market cannot be built without a special emphasis on the free movement of data amongst EU Member States. Once Only Principle in Malta
On 14 June the SEMIC 2017 Conference took place in Malta. On this occasion, Malta presented a draft of its National Data Strategy. The strategy consists of a number of separate documents that focus on different topics: Data-Driven Public Administration, National Data Infrastructure, and Base Registers for Enterprise Data Sharing. With its National Data Strategy, more specifically with the strategy document on National Data Infrastructures, the Maltese Government targets the implementation of the 'Once-Only Principle' (OOP). Africa Open Data Conference in Ghana
From 17 to 21 July, the 2017 Africa Open Data Conference took place in Accra, Ghana. This year's conference attracted participants from all over Africa as well as delegations from around the world. The event brought together innovators and visionaries from the private sector as well as decision-makers, investors and donors. Spain develops Open Data guide for municipalities and local entities
As highlighted in a recent European Data Portal Report on Open Data barriers, local administrations in particular face challenges with regard to the skills and capacity required to publish Open Data. To overcome these challenges, the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of Spain (FEMP) presented the Strategic Guide to Open Data which comprises a series of actions, guidelines and recommendations so that municipalities and local authorities can effectively publish their data for re-use by citizens, civil society organisations, companies and/or other public administrations. European Week of Regions and Cities 2017
From 9 to 12 October 2017, the European Week of Regions and Cities will take place in Brussels. Croatia introduces national open licence
To foster Open Data re-use, one has to make sure that it is clear for users whether and how the data published can be re-used. Open Data is data that can be freely used, modified, and shared by anyone. These properties are described in a licence. There are many licences available out there and now also Croatia has introduced their national open licence.
