BlindSquare: A Finnish application for improved accessibility
BlindSquare is a Finnish application that aims to help visually impaired people navigate their surroundings. In addition, the application aids users to get to a given location by alerting them of obstacles in their environment. The application describes the environment, identifies potential hazards and announces points of interest, street intersections and locations which users have saved using the GPS location and data from FourSquare and OpenStreetMap. Nairobi INSPIRE Hackathon 2019
Nairobi INSPIRE Hackathon has begun! The hackathon started in March by forming hackathon teams that will work remotely until the final event on 10 May 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. Examples of projects are: Open Land Use of Africa (OLU4Africa), which explores open available data source to build a community and Open Transport Map (OTM) Applications for Africa, which aims to demonstrate how interactive traffic modelling applications can improve traffic in African cities. Hier wil ik wonen! A Dutch open data application
Hier wil ik wonen! is a Dutch application that allows users to compare their own living environment with other places. More specifically, users can calculate a total score for a specific address by filtering which indicators are important to them such as comfort, health, safety, affordability and accessibility, and rating these between 1 and 100. The results can then be compared to the scores of other addresses. Re-launch of the Open Data Portal of Estonia
In November 2018, Estonia re-launched their open data portal! The Estonian portal provides a single point of access to public sector data for the purpose of re-use and re-distribution. The portal aims to increase transparency on different topics and to facilitate the creation and management of open services for private and community sectors. In addition, the Estonian open data portal encourages the migration of future technologies such as Linked Data, Big Data and the Internet of Things. The website is now available in English for users to explore their different datasets, use cases and news.
