Release planning of DCAT-AP in 2019
DCAT Application Profile for data portals in Europe (DCAT-AP) has been developed in the context of the Interoperability Solutions for European Public Administrations ( ISA) Programme. DCAT-AP is a specification based on W3C's Data Catalogue vocabulary ( DCAT) for describing public sector datasets in Europe. Its basic use case is to enable a cross-data portal search for data sets and make public sector data better searchable across borders and sectors. Slim Melden: a Dutch open data application
Slim Melden is a Dutch application that allows citizens to quickly and easily report to their municipality the issues they face in their neighbourhood. The reported issues can be about broken streetlights, illegally parked cars, graffiti or full garbage cans. Citizens can report these issues by selecting a location or specific object on the map, choosing the right report category for the issue, and providing a short description or picture. Summary of the EDP's Open Data Quality Workshop
On 25 and 26 March, the European Data Portal organised a two-day workshop on metadata and data quality in Hamburg, Germany. The workshop focused on standards, tools and practices of metadata, and data quality. Participants joined from across Europe: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovenia. The workshop began with a welcome speech from the Chief Digital Officer of the City of Hamburg, followed by presentations from the country representatives on their initiatives and approaches to ensuring a high-quality of open data

European Data Portal at BTS and University of Navarra
Last week, the European Data Portal (EDP) held a guest lecture at the Barcelona Technology School's (BTS) programme Big Data Management to discuss data-driven business and at University de Navarra to discuss open data in journalism. The students were very engaged and keen to learn more about open data and additional data-related subjects. Enhancing transparency through open data
On March 2019, Etalab - the Task Force under the French Prime Minister's Office in charge of open data and open government, responsible for the portal www.data.gouv.fr - published their guide for public algorithms to be used by public administrations to increase transparency. Viomedo is a German platform that uses data to bring transparency to clinical trials and helps users get access to treatments quickly. The platform uses open data on clinical trial registries and information from research completed by study centres and pharmaceutical companies.
