Supporting food supply and distribution with open data
With the global population steadily rising, food supply and distribution have become a more pressing issue in agriculture. Open data can help to address this issue. SciDevNet is a platform that offers news, analysis, and information on global scientific and technological developments. On 11 November 2020, SciDevNet met with Andy Robinson, a representative of the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI), to discuss how open data can address pressures on the agricultural sector and provide food to the world population. An outcome of the debate is that open data and data sharing

The Impact of Open Data in Ukraine
The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has recently published an analytical report on the impact of open data in the construction and urban development sector. This sector has historically been prone to corruption and has faced many challenges, such as violation of urban development laws, real estate investment risks, post factum legalisation of unlawful construction projects , and incompetent renovation of historic buildings. Part of the explanation for these problems is the unavailability of data of the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate (SACI), the main authority

OCHA-Bucky
The current COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for data and the value of models for response strategies. In response to this, the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and the Centre for Humanitarian Data developed a model fit for use in humanitarian contexts: OCHA-Bucky . This model can be used to predict the number of cases, hospitalisations, and deaths over the next four weeks. The tool aims to help decision making on a short-term and operational basis, thereby protecting and saving people amidst this humanitarian crisis. This project began in March, and up until
