The Dutch House of Representatives opens up
The Dutch House of Representatives ('Tweede Kamer') has announced that the first version of their Open Data Portal will be launched in February. This portal will allow citizens from the Netherlands and abroad to search and download publicly available data. The data to be made available includes among others bills, motions, amendments and reports discussed in the parliament. The Open Data portal will be linked to the website of the House of Representatives, which has been recently renewed. On the Open Data Portal, an API will be made available for developers. Workshop on the impact of Open Data
The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, CABI, GODAN, CTA and Wageningen University are partnering to organise the 3rd Workshop on Creating Impacts with Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition. Hungary publishes White Paper on National Data Policy
In order to boost the national data economy, Hungary has taken a major step to move forward with Open Data. At the end of December 2016, the Hungarian government adopted and published a White Paper on Hungary's National Data Policy (or in Hungarian) to form the basis of the Government's uniform data policy that would facilitate the re-use of public sector data. The White Paper is part of Government Decree No. 1310/2015 (V. 21) on measures required for the broad-scale re-use of public sector data. French region launches Open Data platform
Philippe Richert, President of the Grand Est region in France, announced the launch of a regional Open Data platform at the end of January. This portal will make it possible to disseminate public data of the whole Grand Est region on one and the same platform, data.grandest.fr. A strong objective of this approach is to ensure that companies take up the benefit of this initiative, enabling them to develop new services and applications to make the Grand Est region a powerful and innovative region. Policy brief about the use of Open Data
A policy brief on the use of Open Data by commercial and policy users has been published by the MELODIES project. The MELODIES project - Maximising the Exploitation of Linked Open Data in Enterprise and Science - was created as a direct response to the European Open Data Strategy. It involved sixteen partners from eight European countries. Successful Hack for Sweden 2017 event
The annual Swedish hackathon based on Open Data, Hack for Sweden, took place on 11 and 12 March in Stockholm. Over 200 participants had 24 hours to solve societal challenges in a new and innovative way using Open Data and API's from 30 Swedish government agencies. Hack for Sweden 2017 was inaugurated by the Minister of Public Administration, Ardala Shekarabi. The Minister stressed the importance of Open Data in his opening speech, as well as the assignment given to the Swedish National Archives to promote efforts of the state authorities to create access to digital information and Open Data

Open Data for Open Cities event
On 9 May 2017, the Open Data for Open Cities workshop takes place in Wageningen, the Netherlands. The workshop will focus on the re-use of Open Data and understanding the impact of Open Data at a city level. The workshop will be managed by representatives of three European universities which are part of " Enabling Open Cities" project. Re-usability and discoverability are one of the frequent topics in events on Open Data and geographic standards. New study on user needs in Sweden
As a part of the ongoing work of the Swedish National Archives to create access to digital information and Open Data, a survey on user needs will be carried out in the next few months. With this study, the National Archives would like to identify the type of users of the national Open Data portal and the kind of information they are looking for. With this information, the team managing the portal can better tailor their services to the needs of the user community. A survey will be carried out as a questionnaire to get insights from two main user groups: users of the national Open Data portal
