The City of Ghent launches new Open Data portal
There are plenty of Open Data developments in the Belgian city of Ghent these days. This past weekend Apps for Ghent took place, the annual hackathon for the Open Data community in Ghent. For its seventh edition, Open Data enthusiasts were invited to develop innovative applications and creative ideas by using Open Data provided by the City of Ghent. New State Agency in charge of Open Data in Bulgaria
Following a decision taken by the Bulgarian Parliament in 2016, a new eGovernment Agency has recently been established in Bulgaria. The agency is the successor of the Electronic Governance Directorate within the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications and the Executive Agency for Electronic Communication Networks and Information Systems. The new agency is responsible for the implementation of projects related to electronic governance as well as coordination of national policies in the area with the EU requirements and practices. New version of the Italian Open Data portal now online
On 8 March, a new version of the Italian National Open Data portal dati.gov.it was released. One of the key characteristics of this new portal is that it automatically updates the metadata of the various local catalogues harvested by the national portal. The new design of the portal is in line with the Design Guidelines for web services of public administrations in Italy. Malaga shares Open Data portal extensions
European cities are advancing with Open Data, as illustrated by the European Data Portal report on Open Data in Cities 2016. More and more cities are developing Open Data portals, and are designing policies to support the release of Open Data. The Spanish city of Malaga has now announced that it is making available several extensions which were developed for its own Open Data portal, based on CKAN. The extensions include one that creates a better look and feel, a contact-module, and one that makes it easier for the CKAN-based portal to be harvested by Spain's national Open Data portal. The

More Open Data thanks to launch of a new Copernicus satellite
The latest Copernicus satellite (Sentinel-2B) was successfully launched on 7 March from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana. Thanks to this new satellite, more Open Data will be available to develop innovative services, providing faster access to more precise land and sea maps. Copernicus - Europe's Earth observation programme - can now build up an image covering the entire planet in just 5 days, cutting the time needed to image the globe by half. Join the first cross-border INSPIRE conference
Geospatial data is one of the Open Data domains with a high potential economic impact. The publication of geospatial data is driven by the INSPIRE Directive, which aims to establish an infrastructure for spatial information in Europe that is geared to help to make spatial or geographical information more accessible and interoperable for a wide range of purposes. New Open Data project at Swedish National Archives
The National Archives in Sweden has in June 2016 been assigned by the Swedish national government to promote efforts of the state authorities to create access to digital information and to open up public sector information (PSI). This work had a preparatory phase during 2016, and will be continued with the start of a new project called " Open Data and PSI". The United Kingdom's Land Registry opens up
Serving as a department that records property owners in England and Wales, the Land Registry is committed to releasing two datasets related to commercial and corporate ownership as Open Data by autumn 2017. Further datasets could then follow. The organisation is also looking to set out a new five year strategy with a focus on digital and data reforms.
