How Open Data can support citizens' participation in elections
General elections were held in the Netherlands on Wednesday 15 March 2017 to elect all 150 members of the House of Representatives. According to the official statistics, roughly 82 percent of eligible voters showed up to cast a ballot. The voter turnout far outpaced the 2012 and 2010 election figures, when about 75 percent arrived at the polls. Open Data can have an important role during elections. The online collection of the Louvre museum comprises high-resolution pictures and scans of artworks. The Atlas database covers some 30,000 objects on display in the museum. Through the database, artworks are more easily accessible for the broader public as people can see images of artworks and read English descriptions online. Connecting Europe Facility Telecom/2017-3 call launched!
The European Commission has opened a call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to stimulate and support the deployment of European Digital Service Infrastructures (DSIs). Up to €24 million will be made available to meet the needs of public administrations, businesses and citizens in their cross-border activities. Interested applicants from all EU Member States, as well as Iceland and Norway, may submit their proposals in the areas of eInvoicing, eTranslation, Europeana and Public Open Data. SEMIC 2017 Conference followed by more than 1100 participants
SEMIC 2017, the seventh edition of the annual Semantic Interoperability Conference organised under the scope of the ISA 2 Programme, took place on 14 June in Valletta, Malta. The conference was attended by 220 participants on-site and a further 800+ online, which makes this seventh edition of SEMIC the most successful one so far. Winners of the Sharing & Reuse Awards made public!
The European Commission announced the winners of the Sharing and Reuse Awards during the Sharing & Reuse Conference on 29 March in Lisbon. Modernising public administration through sharing and reuse of IT solutions was the leading theme of the event. Participants discussed how sharing and reusing open source IT solutions enables public administrations to deliver better electronic services to citizens at a reduced cost while promoting interoperability, standardisation and cooperation among them. State of Play of Interoperability in Europe - Report 2016
The National Interoperability Framework Observatory (NIFO) of the European Commission has just published the report " State of Play of Interoperability in Europe 2016".
