Portuguese Direcção-Geral do Ensino Superior launches data website
The Directorate General of Higher Education has launched a website that aggregates the national competition statistics regarding access and admission to public higher education. The new website is called 'National Access Competition: 2015 figures " and covers areas of access to higher education ranging from concepts, calendars and training offered by various statistical indicators grouped by topics such as "candidates and preferences", "placed and enrolled" and other indicators. Digital4EU Stakeholder Forum 2016
On 25 February, the Digital4EU Stakeholder Forum will take place in Brussels. This one-day event that is organised by the European Commission will be centred around the progress made in creating a Digital Single Market in Europe. Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger responsible for the Digital Economy and Society will give one of the keynote speeches during the event. Other keynote speakers include a representative of the Dutch EU Presidency and Roberto Viola, the Director-General of DG Connect. Deadline for Connecting Europe Facility call approaches
The deadline for submitting proposals for the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) call is on 19 January 2016. The grants aim at improving the interoperability and interconnectivity of the European digital service ecosystem. Goal is to further extend the resuable content and facilitate access to and reuse of datasets held and made public by European public administrations. Importance of Open Data in Bulgaria
Minister Rumiana Bachvarova and Ambassador Emma Hopkins opened the conference #TimeForData in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event was dedicated to exploring the benefits Open Data brings to the work of the government and businesses in Bulgaria. Antonio Acuña, head of https://data.gov.uk/ and special guest for the event, stressed that Open Data is the currency of transparency, while Minister Bachvarova said that the latest European Commission study on Open Data Maturity rates Bulgaria in the EU top ten. European Data Forum 2015 took place in Luxembourg
The European Data Forum (EDF) is a meeting place to discuss the challenges of Big Data and the emerging Data Economy and to develop suitable action plans for addressing these challenges. The range of topics discussed at the EDF ranged from novel data-driven business models (e.g. data clearing houses), and technological innovations (e.g. Linked Data Web) to societal aspects (e.g. open governmental data as well as data privacy and security). French governments' Open Data budget will more than double in 2016
The Etalab Mission aims to promote open public data in French: statistics of all kinds, election results, budget information, etc. The goal of Etalab is to support the authorities in working towards Open Data, so that every citizen can access information obtained by public bodies. The extra budget is needed for further development of the French Open Data Portal, exploring the possibilities of Open Science and the preparations of French being the presidency of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in 2016. Greece launches IT 4 Gov competition
In Greece, the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction launched an initiative to stimulate more innovative services for public administration. The objective of the competition is to find innovative services which are not already marketed and aimed at structuring new alternative models. These services should simplify procedures in public administration and find effective eGovernment services that will offer pioneering solutions, providing usable services to citizens and businesses. EDP and FIWARE launch new partnership
The European Data Portal and FIWARE are proud to announce a collaboration with the objective to create synergies between the two initiatives for better serving users' needs. FIWARE is the European open service platform for building interoperable and smart Internet based services. The collaboration with FIWARE will help in bringing Europe's Open Data closer to the fingertips of the growing open community of thousands of FIWARE developers, startups and new users in Europe and world-wide. Madrid joins the International Open Data Charter
The Charter embodies the principles of an Open Data policy and creates a stable framework for cooperation in this field between cities, regions and countries around the world. The commitment of Madrid covers four areas of work: accountability, technology and innovation, citizen participation and finally transparency. MYGEOSS Apps for Your Environment winners
The MYGEOSS project launched on 15 September 2015 its second open call for innovative applications using open data, or crowd-generated data in different domains that address citizens' needs. The call closed on the 30 September 2015 and was a resounding success with 42 applications received from 15 countries: 43% from SMEs, 36% from universities and research centres, and 21% from individuals.
